Jammu, July 15

Northern Railway on Wednesday commissioned two newly constructed platforms at Jammu Railway Station, completing a major phase of the station’s redevelopment and restoring all seven platforms to full operation.

Railway officials said the opening of platforms 6 and 7, along with the recommissioning of platforms 4 and 5, would enable smoother train operations, reduce congestion and improve passenger handling capacity at one of northern India’s busiest railway hubs.

Train No 12413 became the first service to arrive at the newly built Platform 6, marking the operational launch of the upgraded facilities.

“The commissioning of platforms 6 and 7 has increased the station’s capacity to accommodate and operate more trains simultaneously,” Raghvender Singh, Public Relations Inspector of the Jammu Railway Division, said.

He said the additional capacity would reduce halting time for trains and ease overcrowding, particularly during periods of heavy passenger traffic.

The redevelopment is expected to improve connectivity for travellers to and from Jammu and Kashmir as rail traffic continues to grow.

Railway authorities advised passengers to verify platform information through station announcements and electronic display boards and urged them to use the foot overbridges and designated access routes while travelling to the new platforms.
