Security forces recovered a cache of ammunition from a suspected militant hideout in Poonch district of Pir Panjal region on Wednesday as a separate search operation entered its second day in neighbouring Rajouri following reports of suspected militant movement.

Officials said personnel from the Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police uncovered the hideout during a search operation in the Saujiyan area of Poonch.

The forces recovered 246 rounds of ammunition for a PK machine gun, commonly known as a Pika gun, which had been concealed at the site, officials said.

The recovery came as the Army, J&K Police and the Central Reserve Police Force continued a large-scale joint operation in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri district.

Security forces expanded the cordon after additional reinforcements were deployed on Wednesday, officials said.

The operation was launched on Tuesday evening after reports of suspected militant movement in the area.

A CCTV video circulating on social media purportedly shows several unidentified individuals running along a road in the vicinity. Officials have not confirmed the authenticity of the footage or said whether the people seen in the video are linked to the ongoing operation.

Security forces have intensified search efforts in the area as operations continue to locate the suspected militants.
