Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the understanding reached between the United States and Iran to end their conflict in West Asia, expressing hope that implementation of the agreement would restore regional stability and safeguard international trade routes.

The agreement, announced by US President Donald Trump, seeks to end a 107-day conflict that disrupted global energy markets and heightened concerns over the security of international shipping lanes.

“I welcome the understanding reached between the United States and Iran on ending the conflict in West Asia, which has caused serious economic disruption across the world and led to loss of life in many countries,” Modi said in a post on X.

India hopes the agreement will contribute to peace, stability, and the freedom of navigation and commerce in the region, he said.

The prime minister also expressed hope that discussions on unresolved issues between Washington and Tehran would culminate in a sustainable and comprehensive settlement.

India, one of the world’s largest importers of crude oil, has closely monitored developments in the Gulf, where disruptions to shipping and energy exports have significant implications for domestic inflation, trade and economic growth.

The agreement is scheduled to be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19.
