Department of Surgery demonstrates expertise in minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallstone disease and laparoscopic hernia repair

Kashmir Medical College and Hospital (KMCH), Sempora, on Monday showcased its advanced healthcare infrastructure and specialised medical services during a walkthrough of its Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Surgery departments.
Hospital officials said the event was organised to highlight the institution’s growing clinical capabilities, modern equipment and patient care facilities.
The Department of Surgery demonstrated its expertise in minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallstone disease and laparoscopic hernia repair, underscoring the hospital’s focus on advanced surgical care.
The ENT Department presented its audiology and diagnostic facilities, including Pure Tone Audiometry, Impedance Audiometry, Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) and Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA). The department also showcased its speech therapy services and a dedicated Temporal Bone Dissection Laboratory for postgraduate training.
The event was attended by noted ENT and head-and-neck surgeon Prof Rafiq A. Pampori, former principal of Government Medical College Srinagar, who participated as chief guest.
Other attendees included KMCH Managing Director Tousif Ahmad, Executive Director Insha Qazi, Principal and Head of the ENT Department Prof Nazir Ahmad Khan, Medical Superintendent Dr Syed Mubashir, Head of the Surgery Department Dr Sheikh Sajad, senior faculty members, consultants and healthcare professionals.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Pampori stressed the importance of professionalism and ethical conduct in healthcare, describing them as the foundation of quality medical practice.
“The medical profession demands the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical practice to ensure the best possible care for patients,” he said.
Pampori also praised the institution for developing modern healthcare infrastructure within a short period and emphasised the need for medical professionals to stay abreast of rapid advancements in the field.
Managing Director Tousif Ahmad said the walkthrough aimed to increase public awareness about the specialised services and advanced technologies available at the hospital.
He said the institution had invested in modern medical equipment to support diagnosis and treatment across multiple specialties and would continue organising outreach programmes and medical camps in surrounding areas as part of its community healthcare initiatives.
Ahmad said the hospital was in the process of operationalising modular operation theatres and planned to further strengthen its infrastructure through advanced surgical intensive care units and additional ventilator-equipped beds to expand critical care services.
Principal Prof Nazir Ahmad Khan commended the ENT and Surgery departments for expanding specialised healthcare services and establishing modern facilities.
He said the achievements reflected the commitment of faculty and staff towards improving access to advanced healthcare and strengthening medical education and training at the institution.
