A women’s college in Srinagar organised an awareness rally and marathon on Monday as part of India’s anti-drug campaign, with students and faculty pledging support for a drug-free society, organisers said.
The event was held at Government Degree College for Women Nawakadal under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, involving its College Wellbeing and Anti-Substance Cell, sports committee and NCC unit.
Participants marched from the college campus to Safakadal Chowk, spreading awareness about the risks of substance abuse and promoting healthier lifestyles among young people.
The programme also featured a marathon in which students and faculty took part, organisers said.
College principal Huda Galzai said such initiatives were important in encouraging collective responsibility to tackle drug abuse and fostering social awareness among youth.
Faculty members and organisers said the event aimed to build awareness, discipline and community engagement as part of efforts to curb substance abuse in Jammu and Kashmir.
The programme concluded with participants taking a pledge to support the goal of a drug-free society.
