A week-long self-defence workshop concluded on Monday at a women’s college in Srinagar, with organisers highlighting improved confidence and preparedness among participants.
The programme was held at Government College for Women MA Road and organised by its Women’s Study Centre and Department of Physical Education in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.
Around 50 students took part in the workshop, which began on April 20 and covered techniques such as escaping wrist grabs, chokeholds and other forms of physical restraint, organisers said.
Divisional Sports Officer Nusrat Gazala, who attended the closing ceremony, stressed the importance of self-defence training, while college principal Yasmeen Farooq said the initiative would be continued as a regular feature.
Faculty members said the training helped participants develop confidence, situational awareness and discipline.
Separately, Sheikh Ajaz Bashir visited the college and inaugurated refurbished laboratories in departments including zoology, education and water management.
Bashir said well-equipped laboratories were essential for promoting research and practical learning, and interacted with students and faculty during the visit, officials said.
