Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Monday that any life-threatening attack on political leaders was unacceptable, stressing that differences should be resolved through dialogue rather than violence.

“Differences can be expressed verbally, not by physically harming anyone,” Abdullah told reporters, adding that people in Jammu and Kashmir understood the consequences of political violence better than most.

His remarks came in response to a question on a recent shooting incident in Washington involving Donald Trump.

Abdullah said it was a relief that Trump was unharmed and reiterated that such attacks should not occur anywhere.

Speaking after inaugurating a building at the Government College of Engineering and Technology in Jammu, he also called for lasting peace in West Asia, including an end to conflict involving Iran.

On domestic issues, the CM said the launch of expanded direct train services between Katra and Srinagar from April 30 would boost tourism in the region.

He said that increasing the number of coaches would allow more passengers to travel, improving connectivity.

Abdullah also said his government was working to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the region, including plans to establish an incubation centre at the engineering college.

He said that initiatives to support entrepreneurship and infrastructure were part of broader efforts to drive economic growth and development in Jammu and Kashmir.
