Authorities have warned of heatwave-like conditions in parts of Jammu region over the coming days, with temperatures already rising above normal levels, officials said.
The plain areas of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur are likely to experience heatwave conditions over the next few days, according to the Meteorological Department.
Director Meteorology Mukhtar Ahmed said hot and dry weather would persist across the region, with isolated pockets expected to face heatwave conditions for up to four days.
He added that even traditionally cooler areas, including Katra in Reasi and parts of Udhampur, have been experiencing unusually high temperatures.
Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 39.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday, after touching 40.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier, around 5-7 degrees above seasonal norms, officials said.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and to stay hydrated by consuming water and fluids such as lassi, lemon water, and oral rehydration solutions.
The warning comes amid a spell of sustained hot and dry weather across the region, raising concerns over heat-related illnesses.
